Jacob F. "Jim" Shockey(1925 - 2013)

Jacob F. "Jim" Shockey, 88, of 13419 Blue Ridge Avenue, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 29, 1925, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Christian D. and Audra E. (Freeman) Shockey.
Mr. Shockey served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1943-1946 in the Pacific Theater. He fought in the Battles of Peleliu, Okinawa, and Guam. For his service, he was recognized with various medals, ribbons, and Presidential Citations. When asked about his medals and awards, he would often state the one he didn't win, the Good Conduct Medal, claiming they wanted soldiers who would win the war, not obey orders.
He and his wife, the late Mrs. Colleen I. (Helman) Shockey, were married Sept. 3, 1949, in Hagerstown, Md. They had lived at their Blue Ridge Summit address since 1949. Mrs. Shockey passed away March 2, 2005.
Mr. Shockey was employed at Landis Tool Co. and Frick Co., both of Waynesboro, in the foundry departments.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Shockey is survived by six children, Daniel F. Shockey of Blue Ridge Summit, Rebecca J. Bowman and her husband, Stanley of Rouzerville, Pa., Franklin "Jimmy" Shockey and his wife, Susan of Blue Ridge Summit, Kenneth N. Shockey and his wife, Beth of Blue Ridge Summit, and twins, JoEllen Crider and her husband Donald of Cascade, Md., and Sue Ellen Lee and her husband, Henry of Zullinger, Pa.; a grandson they raised, Corey Murdorf of Blue Ridge Summit; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathryn Shockey; and infant son, Donald Shockey; two sisters, Mary Harshman and Cora Taylor; and two brothers, Elmer Shockey and Bert Shockey.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with his nephew, Mr. Robley Martz officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
