Lois A. (Leichliter) Brooks, 76, of 8204 Sheffield Manor Blvd., Waynesboro, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in her home.
Born Jan. 25, 1938, in Merrittstown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Emerson C. and Sara M. (Randolph) Leichliter.
Mrs. Brooks graduated from Redstone High School in Republic, Pennsylvania, with the Class of 1957.
She and her husband of over 55 years, Harry W. Brooks, were married on June 27, 1958, in Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, Smock, Pennsylvania. They have lived at their present residence since December 1976.
Mrs. Brooks worked at the Post Exchange at Fort Ritchie for eight years. She later worked for TAB Books, later McGraw Hill, and Roman & Littlefield in Blue Ridge Summit, as mail room supervisor, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro, Mount Vernon Chapter 398 Order of the Eastern Star, and Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Brooks enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, scrapbooking, square dancing, attending NASCAR races, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Malinda K. Miller and her husband, Michael of Columbia, Maryland, and Scott A. Brooks and his wife, Charmine of Aberdeen, Texas; four grandchildren, Brooke Homar, Hunter Brooks, Madison Brooks, and Mason Brooks; two sisters, Elaine McCune of Cleveland, Ohio, and Beverly Higinbotham of Elmer, New Jersey; three brothers, Duane Leichliter of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Ralph Leichliter of Grindstone, Pennsylvania, and Delmar Leichliterof Smock, Pennsylvania; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, in The Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro, 105 E. Main St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Christine Callaway officiating. Burial will be private in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, where an Easter Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by the members of Mount Vernon Chapter 398.
