Philip E. "lil brother" Staley, 74, of Waynesboro, Pa., died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Quincy Village.
Born Jan. 6, 1940, near Sabillasville, Md., he was the son of Francis E. Staley of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and the late Mona M. (Ferguson) Staley.
Mr. Staley graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the class of 1961.
He and his wife of over 40 years, Esther P. (Cordell) Brown Staley, were married on Dec. 16, 1973.
Mr. Staley worked as a grounds keeper at The Lodge in Blue Ridge Summit, as an auction runner, and a furniture restorer, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of Jacob's Church, Fairfield, Pa., and Acacia Lodge 155 F&AM, Thurmont, Md. He was also an active member of Not Forgotten Ministry, which is a nursing home ministry group and where he was known as "lil brother."
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Betty Blanch of Fayetteville, Ark., and Barbara Custer of Dillsburg, Pa.; three stepgrandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and his spiritual brother, Rev. Richard Daughtridge.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one stepgrandson, Scott Custer; and one brother, Clifford Staley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in Jacob's Church, 495 Harbaugh Valley Road, Fairfield, Pa., with Rev. Richard Daughtridge officiating. Burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
