S. Edward Wetherald Sr. of 114 Coquina Sands, Waynesboro, Pa., was pronounced dead on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, in his home. Death was attributed to natural causes.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1929, in Kingston, Pa.; he was the son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Miles) Wetherald. He lived his early life in Glenside, Pa.
Mr. Wetherald graduated from Abington High School with the class of 1947. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University
in refrigeration engineering.
Mr. Wetherald was employed by Frick Co. of Waynesboro in the refrigeration engineering department. He later worked in the sales department for Harvestore of Dillsburg, Pa.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of York, where he served as an Elder. He also was a member of the York Jaycees, Penn State Alumni Association; and the Nittany Lion Club.
When his sons were young he was active in Boy Scouts of America, and participated in many school activities. He was an avid Penn State football fan.
Mr. Wetherald is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Quier) Wetherald, four sons, S. Edward "Ned" Wetherald, wife Karen Neff of Bellefonte, Pa.; Timothy A. Wetherald, wife Laura of Elliott City, Md.; Scot A. Wetherald of Parkville, Md.; Jay D. Wetherald, wife Susie of Waynesboro, six grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Noah C. Wetherald, who died Sept. 17, 2013.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Drahus Oslik officiating. Private burial will be held in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Tuesday morning, in the funeral home.
