Susan (McLaughlin) Peiffer, 89, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of Mont Alto, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the nursing home.
Born Aug. 26, 1924, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Edgar W. and Thelma (Grim) McLaughlin.
Mrs. Peiffer was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1942.
She and her husband, the late Mr. Robert B. Peiffer, were married Feb. 1, 1943, in Winchester, Virginia. They moved to Mont Alto in 1951 and to Quincy Village in 1995. Mr. Peiffer passed away April 21, 2011.
In her early life, Mrs. Peiffer was employed at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro. Prior to her retirement April 30, 1982, she was an administrative secretary at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown, Maryland, for 28 years.
She was a member of the former Otterbein United Methodist Church, Mont Alto, where she served on various church committees and was a member of the Bide-A-Wee Sunday School class. She also was a member of South Chapter AARP 2977, Waynesboro, where she served as secretary for a number of years and National AARP.
Mrs. Peiffer was also an active volunteer at Quincy United Methodist Home and Quincy Village for a number of years.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara P. Shank and her husband, Adrian of Odenton, Maryland; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Shank of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a brother, Ralph McLaughlin of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Angle one brother, Edgar McLaughlin Jr.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, in the Bryson Room at Quincy Village, 6596 Orphanage Road, Waynesboro, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
