Walter E. Hoover(1918 - 2014)

Walter E. Hoover, age 95, a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Born Sept. 29, 1918, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Walter S. and Mattie Fern (Martin) Hoover. He married Ruth H. (Wolfensberger) Hoover on Dec. 30, 1939. She died on May 27, 2001.
Walter retired from Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove and had previously worked as a truck driver and mechanic at D.A. Wishard Trucking of Waynesboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Walter was a member of the Salem Reformed Church of Hagerstown, the Waynesboro American Legion Post 15 and a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle.
Surviving family are one daughter Jean (Mrs. Joseph) Carbaugh of Greencastle, two grandchildren Tammy Bakalarski and husband John, Kimberly Sellers and husband William, four great-grandchildren Noah and Matthew Bakalarski, Joseph and Kaylynn Sellers, one sister, I. Mae Seylar of Chambersburg, four brothers, Joe Hoover of Berlin, Maryland, Richard Hoover of Fort Loudon, Pennsylvania, J. Dean Hoover of Hagerstown, Aldus Hoover of Waynesboro and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter Nancy Daley, son-in-law Bob Daley, one grandson Nevin Daley and five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 23, at 11 a.m. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, with Rev. Steve Wagoner officiating. Burial with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will be in the Salem Reformed Church Cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Salem Reformed Church, P.O.
