Melvin Edward Rosenquist Obituary
Melvin Edward Rosenquist, 73, of 866 Leitersburg Road, Greencastle, Pa., died at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in Quincy Village, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born May 4, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Ernest and Genevieve (Bjork) Rosenquist.
Mr. Rosenquist graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago and later served in the United States Army.
He and his wife of more than 49 years, Thelma A. (Hissong) Rosenquist, were married on Nov. 9, 1963, in Upton, Pa. They moved to their present residence in 1967. Throughout their lives they also lived in Washington, D.C., Germany, the Netherlands and Davenport, Iowa.
Mr. Rosenquist was a computer programmer working for the Democratic National Committee, Washington, D.C., Jamison Door Co., Hagerstown, Md., Digital Systems, Walkersville, Md., and Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., Mannheim, Germany, Kerkrade, The Netherlands, and Rock Island, Ill. He retired in July 2002.
He was a member of VFW Post 6319 and American Legion Post 373, both of Greencastle.
Mr. Rosenquist enjoyed woodworking and electronics, especially computers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Edward P. Rosenquist and Amy Jo Byers, both of Greencastle; three grandchildren, Tanner Stolte, Hunter Byers, and Ashtin Byers; one sister, Karen Belskis and her husband, Wayne of Huntley, Ill.; one brother, Carl Rosenquist and his wife, Barb of Stanley, Wis.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with Rev. Dr. Carol Kipe officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, Pa., where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, in the funeral home.
