Arthur E. Bakner Obituary
Arthur E. Bakner, 93, of 9506 Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, in Waynesboro Hospital.
Born May 15, 1920, in the Fairview area of Quincy Township, he was the son of the late Clarence and Fannie (Pentz) Bakner.
Mr. Bakner was a graduate of Quincy High School with the Class of 1939.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater and Africa with the 7th Army 10th Field Hospital Brigade.
He and his wife of over 65 years, Mrs. Orpha R. (Ressler) Bakner, were married Nov. 27, 1947, in Tomstown.
Mr. Bakner was employed at Post Engineer for Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., from 1948 until his retirement in 1979. Following his retirement, he worked for Snowberger's Concrete.
He was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren Church, Waynesboro, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and Men's Brotherhood and Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.
Mr. Bakner enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Susan Corwell of Chambersburg, Pa., Waneta Kipe of Little Cove, Pa., Steve Bakner of Waynesboro and Mary King of Tomstown; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, James "Bill" Bakner of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Marion Bakner and Roy Bakner Sr.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, in Quincy Cemetery with Pastor Gregory Helman officiating, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund of Blue Rock United Brethren Church, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro Pa. 17268.
