Mrs. Betty J. (Hess) Bankert Obituary
Mrs. Betty J. (Hess) Bankert, 84, formerly of South Mountain, PA and Fayetteville, PA and last residing in Greencastle, PA, peacefully took the hand of Jesus on Sunday morning, September 9, 2018, at Quincy Village, Waynesboro, PA.
Born March 16, 1934 in Five Forks, PA, she was the daughter of the late Emory J. and Etta Mae (Golden) Hess.
She and her husband, the late Ivan R. Bankert, were married on May 28, 1982. Mr. Bankert died on September 15, 1990.
In her early years, Mrs. Bankert worked as a nurse's assistant at South Mountain Restoration Center and then in housekeeping at the Keystone Motel for several years. She was primarily a homemaker, who besides taking care of her family, enjoyed spending time working in her yard and going to yard sales.
She is survived by one son, Merle L. Gilbert, Jr. and his wife, Deb, Chambersburg, PA; two daughters: Patsy I. Weller and her companion, John Brown, Fayetteville and Barbara E. Wolford and her companion, Arvard Daley, Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren: Pamela Kohler and her husband Thomas, Fayetteville, Tony Weller and his wife, Jamie, Fayetteville, Kevin Weller and his wife, Karen, Chambersburg and Joseph Daywalt and his companion, Kelly Brashears, Fayetteville; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gladys M. Beltz, Waynesboro, PA and Edna M. Foust, Mechanicsburg, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Charles Hess, Robert Hess, Clarence Hess, Paul Hess, and one infant brother. and three sisters: Janet Kauffman, Mary Wagaman, and Verna "Vertie" Verdier.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Staci Geesaman officiating. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, PA.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
