James Nelson "Jim" McFerren Sr. Obituary

James "Jim" Nelson McFerren Sr., 79, passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013. He was born Feb. 26, 1934, to Charles Verdier McFerren and Janet (Walters) McFerren in Chambersburg, Pa. He married Lois Jean "Jeanie" Wetzel on March 5, 1960, in Black Lick, Pa.
Jim was a dedicated and hardworking husband and father. He taught secondary Art Education in the Pennsylvania public school system for over 32 years. In addition to being a voracious reader, he enjoyed carpentry, hiking and the outdoors. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife Jeanie; his son James Nelson McFerren II of Louisville, Ky.; his three daughters Lisa Marie Golden (and husband Randy) of Warfordsburg, Pa., Michele Ann Hancock of Okinawa, Japan, and Aimee Lynn McFerren (and husband Brad) of Louisville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; sister Nancy Scrinere (and husband Carl) of Palmyra, Pa., and brother Charles "Chick" McFerren (and wife Kathryn) of Waynesboro, Pa.; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and his loving Boston Terrier Abby.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Leesburg, Fla. A memorial service and inurnment will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Ky., at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to The Wounded Warrior Project or Deliver the Difference, 1540 Kurt St., Eustis, Fla. 32726.
