Melvin D. Keckler Obituary
Melvin D. Keckler, 81, of 5376 Marsh Road, Waynesboro, died unexpectedly Friday evening, June 13, 2014, at his home.
Born May 17, 1933, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Jacob D. and Minnie (Davis) Keckler. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
He and his wife, the late Betty Marie (Farrow) Keckler, were married Dec. 25, 1952, in Clear Spring, Maryland. They had lived at their present residence since 1958. Mrs. Keckler died on Nov. 26, 2012.
Mr. Keckler worked for Fulton Gsell Excavating as a heavy equipment operator. He later worked for Washington Township until his retirement in 2008.
He enjoyed tractors, restoring over 30 tractors in his lifetime. He also designed the engine for the Red Run Park train.
He is survived by five children, Randy Farrow of Waynesboro, Stephen Keckler of Spring Run, Pennsylvania, and Vickii Bingaman of Waynesboro, Tammy Wolfe of Waynesboro and Brian Keckler of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Stouffer of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Walck; and one brother, John Keckler.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Ed Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
