WILLIAM F. CAMPBELL, 1925-2014
William F. Campbell, age 88, went through the gates of splendor on Monday morning, May 5, 2014, at Quincy Home, in Quincy, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bill was born on November 4, 1925, in Akron, Ohio. Following high school, he served as a medic with the 1255th Army Engineering Battalion during
Dr. Bill attended Wooster College then Case Western Reserve Medical School in Ohio, where he received his M.D. in 1952. He and his wife, Alice Holly Gier, were married in Hudson, Ohio, that same year. Dr. Bill then completed a 2 year rotating internship at Cleveland City Hospital.
In 1955, Bill and Holly and their young daughter Karin left for North Africa, where they served as missionaries under Arab World Ministries (now Pioneers) for 40 years. They worked in Morocco, Tunisia, France and the UAE, retiring to Emmaus, Pennsylvania in 1994.
Dr. Bill and Holly had five children, but lost their son Matthew at age 13 in Morocco. Dr. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Holly Gier Campbell; one son, Pastor Ian Campbell and wife Jennie of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Karin Campbell of Fresno, California, Nora Kennedy and husband Dr. Scott of Culpeper, Virginia, Maggie Roth and husband Dr. Mark of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and eleven grandchildren. In addition to his parents and son Matthew, he was preceded in death by his brother James Campbell.
Dr. Bill had a tireless zeal for biblical apologetics. His two published books are The Qur'an and the Bible in the Light of History and Science and The False Gospel of Barnabas. A life-long learner and activist, he explored medicine, renewable energy, and political solutions. Passionate and competitive, he enjoyed skiing, volleyball, chess, fishing, and was always up for a good debate or fun game.
On May 22nd, 2014, 11 a.m., a memorial service will be held at Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church,152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA 17268, with Pastor John Walker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Pioneers, 10123 William Carey Drive, Orlando, FL 32832-6931.
