Kathryn S. "Kate" (Steiner) Stevenson Obituary
Kathryn S. "Kate" (Steiner) Stevenson, 100, of Meadowbrook Drive, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in her home.
Born March 11, 1914, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Amos P. and Katherine (Groff) Steiner.
Mrs. Stevenson was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1932 and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin in 1936 where she majored in psychology and worked as a lab assistant for the renowned humanistic psychologist, Abe Maslow.
She and her husband, the late Joseph S. "Joe" Stevenson Jr., were married Aug. 18, 1937. They spent many winter months living in St. Pete Beach, Fla. Mr. Stevenson passed away Feb. 12, 2000.
Throughout her life, Stevenson was an active volunteer for a number of local charities. She gave Waynesboro its slogan, "Crossroads of Agriculture and Industry." She was a member of Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, Waynesboro Country Club, Pass-a-Grill Women's Club of St. Pete Beach and National AARP.
Stevenson is survived by two children, Jane Stevenson Rule of Annandale, Va., and Samuel S. Stevenson and his wife, Linda of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Bryan Stevenson, Timothy Stevenson, Jody Lenrow, Jeffrey Rule and Kristin Rule; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Robert Steiner and Joseph Steiner; and two sisters, Ruth Griggs and Mary Snyder. A Celebration of Kate's Life will be held from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
