Norman C. "Vick" Vickery Obituary
Norman C. "Vick" Vickery, 88, of Ringgold, Maryland, passed away Monday June 2, 2014, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg Pennsylvania.
Born April 9, 1926 in Foster Brook, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Frances C. (Moore) Vickery.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Constance M. (Griffin) Vickery April 26, 2002. He is also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
He graduated in 1948 from Bradford Area High School of Bradford, Pennsylvania. He returned to high school after serving in the United States Navy in World War II. After graduating from high school he returned to military service enlisting into the United States Army. He retired from the United States Army in April of 1969. His last active duty assignment was as Active Duty Advisor to the Maryland Army National Guard.
He served in combat zones in World War II, The Korean War and Vietnam.
He retired in 1988 from civilian employment from Chemical Leamen Tank Lines in Hagerstown, Maryland. Norman was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Sabillasville, Maryland, where he was a member of the church choir.
Norman was a member of the Appalachian Chevy Classics Car Club, the 29th Lantern Post 729. He was a life member of the VFW post 695 in Waynesboro. Norman thoroughly enjoyed conversation with other people, "he never met a stranger." He loved going to the monthly Chemical Leamen retiree luncheons. He loved antique cars, and going to car shows. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting family.
He is survived by one son Charles "Chuck" Vickery and wife Leslie of Waynesboro, two grandchildren Lyndsay and Laci Vickery and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held Sunday June 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home of Smithsburg with Pastor Janet Comings officiating. Burial will be private. Military honors will be accorded by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown at the funeral home.
