Kenneth D. Sheffler Obituary
Kenneth D. Sheffler, 80, of 6668 Marsh Road, Waynesboro, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, in his home.
Born Nov. 19, 1933, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Robert D. and Anna M. (Hovis) Sheffler. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area and graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1952.
Mr. Sheffler served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving aboard the USS Irwin.
He and his wife, Harriet A. Baer, moved to their present residence in 1990.
Mr. Sheffler worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a welder. He retired on Sept. 1, 1998, after more than 37 years of service. Following his retirement, he returned to Letterkenny to work in the recycling unit and also worked part time at the Wishy Washy Car Wash on Main Street, Waynesboro.
He was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, Owl's Club, Eagles Club Inc., and William "Max" McLaughlin VFW Post 695, all of Waynesboro.
He enjoyed racing cars, including being part owner of a race car. He also enjoyed hunting, vacationing at Chincoteague and watching his grandson fish.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy A. Wishard and her husband, Denny of Waynesboro and Teresa M. Conklin of Frederick, Md.; four grandchildren, Ross Wishard, Douglas Wishard, Tess Conklin and Rory Conklin; one great-grandson, Drew Wishard; two sisters, Darlene Stone and Shirley Seilhamer, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Don Sheffler and Robert Sheffler, both of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home.
