Sechler, William Leslie - Vacaville
Dec. 7, 1953 - April 1, 2016 Bill left this world on April 1, after battling numerous health challenges which included surviving Hodgkins Disease at age 12 and finishing with congestive heart failure. He fought hard to stay longer, but it wasn't meant to be. He left behind his best friend, his wife, Carolyn Vervalle, after spending 42 years together. They met at San Francisco State University where Bill received his Bachelor and Master of Arts Degrees. He began his teaching career at Columbia Park Boys Club in The City. When the family came along it was time to move to the suburbs. He got a job teaching art at Armijo High School in Fairfield and taught there for 28 years. He always stood tall and proud to call himself a teacher. He was a talented artist and most recently won the Best of Category and Best of Show ribbons at the 2015 Solano County Fair. For the last few years he had been sharing his artistic and gardening abilities with the Woodland Library Rose Club. He loved making the world a more beautiful place one small corner at a time. He loved the SF Giants and the 49ers, gardening and birdwatching (he could identify dozens of bird calls AND return them), the Grateful Dead, visiting museums, photographing his favorite roses and visiting New Mexico. He is survived by daughters, Danielle and Cassandra, and sons-in-law, Thayne Gunther and Craig Jacobsen. He will be missed by his granddaughters, Colette and Cindel Gunther, who he spent many days cuddling and watching "Gunsmoke" together. He also leaves behind two sisters, Linda Felix and Paula Sechler, and several nephews and nieces. Former students, colleagues and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Bill's life at the Vacaville Art Gallery Annex, Saturday, June 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Some of his artwork will be displayed.
