April 5, 1957 - Dec. 13, 2013
James Charles Rivas was born April 5, 1957 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Jim, Charles Martin, Wain Chungka, son, brother, uncle, friend, and teacher, surrendered his physical body and returned to the spring of life on Dec. 13, 2013. Our brother believed that even when our bodies die, our essence remains. His spirit, a tiny fleck of dust in the expanse of the universe, was welcomed back to the spiritual sea from which it was born as he ended this cycle of life.
Although our brother will be greatly missed, we can find solace and joy knowing that he is liberated from suffering and that his journey in the spirit world will be a peaceful one. Some may find comfort trusting that his soul was embraced by mother earth and that his energy still burns bright. And others may find consolation in the faith that he rests eternal and lives on in our memories alone. Nevertheless, our brother will remain in our hearts through the stories we tell and through the wisdom he shared with each person he touched. In life, Jim found joy in creating things through cooking and art, both of which he shared generously. While we may be left wanting for his delicious, handmade apple pie, the treasures he created hold a small piece of him for us all to remember him by.
Jim's family will be releasing his ashes in Big Sur on April 5, 2014. To our brother, there was something magical about Big Sur, where the California coast greets the refreshing Pacific sea. It is a magical place where Jim felt alive, it seems only natural that there he will be set free.
Our brother Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette Rivas who returned home to Father God Dec. 8, 2012. Our brother is survived by his father, Joseph Rivas; his brothers and sisters, John Rivas, Jo Anna Frank (Ron), Joe Rivas (Rita), Janine Hatton (Tom), and Jerilynn Harris (Rick); nieces, Rhiannon Frank, Deirdre Frank, Taleena Bennett, Jenna Alba, Melissa Francisco, Ashley Montoya, Mariah Burtness and Savannah Harris; nephews, Joe Rivas, Jacob Rivas, Cole Harris, Johnny and Clinton Trahan; great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
