A Mass of the Resurrection for John Fernandez Ariza, 83, of Fairfield, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1050 N. Texas St., Fairfield.
Father Michael Downey will officiate. Interment will be in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
Mr. Ariza died Jan. 19, 2005, following a long illness, in his home in Fairfield surrounded by his loving family.
Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Vacaville, he lived in Fairfield and Vacaville his entire life. He was owner/operator of Suisun Steam Laundry from 1947 to 1950; worked for the Suisun Olive Cannery for the year of 1950 and 1951; and he was a civil engineer for 31 years at Travis Air Force Base retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army with the rank of T/Sgt. from 1943-1946. He was the head usher at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield for 30 years and also did many years of maintenance at Holy Spirit Convent. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved traveling.
He was very involved in organizing and being in charge of the Northern California Band Review held annually in Fairfield from its inception in the late 1970s.
Mr. Ariza is survived by his wife, Marcelle of Fairfield, who on his date of death, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary, renewing their marriage vows with their family present, and he could be heard saying "I do." Daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and George Eleopoulos of Fairfield, Jeannine and Robert Tapp of Rochester, N.H., Claudia and Stan Montee of Yountville, Paula Ariza of San Ramon, Michelle and Dieter Folk of Vacaville; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Keira Ariza of Fairfield and Marc and Kelly Ariza of Elk Grove; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Kevin, Amber, Jeremy, Andrew, Justine, Blair, John, Austin and Bianca; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Alexandra; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic School, 050 N. Texas St., Fairfield, 94533.
