John W. Hynds

John W. Hynds, 78, of Hereford, AZ, passed away on March 15. He was born on Dec. 5, 1934 in Rochester, NY, to Helen and William Hynds. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1974, including service in the wars in Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Technical Sergeant (E-6). He continued in federal service at Mare Island U.S. Naval Shipyard as an electrical inspector on nuclear submarines, retiring with a combined 37 years of federal service in 1991. After federal retirement, John drove school buses for Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, and worked as an outside-sales travel agent for All World Travel in Fairfield. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan, loved fishing and camping, and enjoyed traveling frequently to Hawaii and visiting family and friends all over the United States. John was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans Fry Chapter 14, the Cochise Renegades Good Sam RV Club, and a charter member of the Vacaville Elks Club. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen and father, William; his three sisters, Joyce, Dorothy, and June; and his son, John. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia Hynds; his sister, Marlene Gerko; his daughters, Cindy Hynds, Linda Hynds, Diana Stowe, and Mindy Kimball; his sons, Ronald Hynds, Robert Hynds, and Marc Hynds; his ex-wives, Sandra Hynds and Diana Nolan; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services for John will be held at 11 a.m., on April 5, at the Fort Huachuca Post Chapel in Sierra Vista, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in John's name to either DAV Fry Chapter 14 (P.O. Box 1014, Sierra Vista, AZ 85636) or the Wounded Warrior Project (
