Carl R. Johnsen Jr, 87, was born May 15, 1926 to Carl and Anna Johnsen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Carl, a SMSGT (USAF, Ret.) and longtime resident of Vacaville, passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 14 of a long term illness.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harvey and loving daughter, Kathy Ann Johnsen. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria; son, Michael and his wife Denise of Gold River, CA; daughter Patty and her husband Rob of Rocklin, CA; son, Jim and his wife Linda of Rocklin, CA. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Patrick and her husband Ryan, Nikki and Brian Fauble, Christopher Johnsen, Kevin Johnsen; two great-grandchildren, Sienna and Colin Patrick, and his sister, Ruth Burdick of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Carl served in the United States Air Force for over 22 years as a flight engineer, stationed mostly at Travis AFB, and distinguished himself as a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War as well as flying in the Berlin Airlift. After his military service Carl worked for PG&E for 15 years in their General Construction Yard in Davis, CA. 
Carl retired in 1981 at the age of 55 and spent his time devoted to his family and watching his grandchildren grow. He had San Francisco 49er season tickets and followed most bay area teams. Carl also loved camping and he and Gloria were always off somewhere traveling. Carl always made it a point to be home for family birthdays and holidays. His family always came first.
A memorial service will be held at the McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville, Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
