Long-time Vacaville resident Flo Langston passed away on Nov. 18, at the age of 87. Flo was born in Springfield, Missouri to Maurice and Mable (Potts) Emery on May 3, 1925. At the age of two, Flo and her family moved to Aruba, where her father worked for Kellogg Construction. After relocating to Houston, Texas, at the outbreak of World War II, Flo graduated from Sam Houston High School and went on to the
University of Texas
in Austin, where she earned a degree in Psychology. After working a short time for the Houston Chronicle, Flo became a stewardess with Pan American World Airways, flying out of Houston, Miami and San Francisco from 1948 until 1958. Flo had the opportunity to travel the world with Pan Am, experiences she treasured for the rest of her life. In 1958, she married John Willis Langston, and moved to Bombay, India, where she gave birth to her daughter, Linda, on Nov. 18,1959 (yes, she passed away on Linda's birthday!) In 1960, the family moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where her son Michael was born on Oct. 25, 1961. Flo, Linda and Michael relocated to Houston, Texas in 1970, and again to Vacaville in Jan. 1971. Flo served Vacaville as a real estate agent for 25 years, until she was debilitated by Alzheimer's disease.
After a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's, Flo passed away peacefully and surrounded by people she loved. A strong-willed and independent woman, Flo's life was characterized by her love of travel, good food and wine, literature and art. She had wonderful, deep friendships with people from all phases of her life and is survived by a wealth of family and friends, who include Linda and Adan Molina, of Vacaville, Thomas Molina of Boston, Massachusetts, Michael Langston, of Terrell, Texas, Gabriel and Olivia Langston-Lewis, of Frisco, Texas; her cousins, Pat Bradanini of Vacaville, John and Betty Bradanini, of Vacaville; her dear friends and former neighbors, Tony and Roulou Avila, of Vacaville, Creighton Avila, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Celeste and Cody Acord, of Twisp, Washington, and her daughter-by-choice, Corinne Jones, of Bluff, Utah.
There will be a memorial gathering at the home of Linda and Adan Molina on Dec. 27, beginning at 3 p.m., to celebrate Flo's life according to her wishes-which will feature good wine, good food, and good friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Flo's name to Helping Hands Senior Resources in Vacaville.
