James Eldon Walton died peacefully in his sleep Monday at his home in Fairfield. He was 75.
James was born Feb. 3, 1938, the son of Earl B. and Bertha Pearl (James) Walton in Prairie City, Illinois. He graduated from Kenosha High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he was a Sea Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. After suffering an ankle injury while in training with the U.S. Navy which ended his naval career, he moved to Los Angeles where he graduated from Life Bible College in Los Angeles, CA., in June 1962. He married his wife Sharon, one week later. After graduation, he and Sharon pastored several Foursquare Churches in Colorado. In 1966, the family moved to Fairfield, where he was employed as a retail clerk in Vallejo at Louis Store, and later at Fry's and Save Mart. He was employed at Pace Winery Square in Fairfield at his death, where he will be greatly missed.
During his years in Fairfield he was a member of the Belfry Players, Fairfield Civic Theatre, and Armijo Band Boosters, James was a member of the Fairfield Foursquare Church from 1966-1986 and the Mission Church from 1987 to the present. He was currently assisting his wife, Sharon, lead the Active Adult Sunday School Class at the Mission Church in Vacaville.
His hobbies included serving in various church activities, model trains, fire engines, painting and recently Celtic music. He always had a quick wit and humorous remark for those he interacted with.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon (Murgatroyd) Walton, of Fairfield; his brother, William (Bill) Walton of Racine, Illinois; daughter, Janet E. Davis, of Fairfield; son, Bruce and his wife Shawn Walton, of Sacramento; and son, Stephen and Angelina Walton of Frankfort, Illinois; grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Davis, Daniel and Amanda Walton, and Emma Grace Walton. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ann Grant.
A Celebration of Life will be at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Mission Church, 6391 Leisure Town Rd., Vacaville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mission Church. Arrangements are being made by Bryan-Braker Funeral home.
