A Mass of Christian burial for Tony Cueva, 69 of Vacaville, will be noon, Friday, Feb. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vacaville. Burial with military honors will follow at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery. Thursday evening, Feb. 6 a Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home.
Tony passed away on the evening of Jan. 26, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jalisco, Mexico on May 10, 1944 to Jose and Francisca Cueva.
Tony proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, a Vietnam Veteran who received multiple awards and medals including the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" for valor. Tony worked at Anheuser Busch for over 25 years until his retirement. He was founding president of the Mexican Open Golf Tournament which has earned money for numerous organizations throughout Solano and Yolo counties as well as scholarship awards to local high school seniors.
In 2010 Tony was awarded the Living Legacy Award for Philanthropic Innovation. An award presented to him by the Senate, US Congress, Solano County Board of Supervisors and the CA State Assembly for his generosity, creativity, and engaging others in service to the community.
Tony was also awarded in 2011 the "Community Quarterback Award" by the San Francisco 49ers Foundation in partnership with NFL charities to recognize his tireless dedication to our community.
Tony is survived by his beloved wife, Lourdes "Terri" Cueva; sons, Anthony Cueva (Hilda) and Joe Louis Cueva; grandchildren, Marisa and Tony; four brothers, five sisters, and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, John David Cueva, his parents, Jose and Francisca Cueva and his brother, Robert Cueva.
