William "Bill" Bessemer, 88, passed away suddenly Sept. 4. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Gizella Bessemer.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. A graduate of Northwestern University, he went on to earn an MBA from Michigan State University.
Bill began his career with the Ford Motor Company and was the Northeastern Regional Manger of the Ford Motor Credit Company when he accepted the position of President of Arcata Leasing Company in Menlo Park, CA.
He had a distinguished career. He served as Vice President-Treasurer for Health Industries, Newport Beach; President of Newport Acceptance Corporation; and Vice President of Finance for the Pebble Beach Corporation until his retirement in 1983.
When Bill lived in Michigan he delighted in boating and was a member of the Detroit and Grosse Ile Yacht Clubs.
When he moved to Vacaville, he became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing with his friends.
A private service was held Sept. 20, when he was laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley Veterans Cemetery. At his request, there will be no memorial service.
He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 65 years; daughters, Barbara of Vacaville, and Janet of Reno, NV. He was a man of simple tastes and will be deeply missed.
