Sept. 12, 1942 Nov. 22, 2016
Adrian Russell Ownby passed away on Nov. 22, in Vacaville, CA. He was born to Woodrow Russell and Gertrude Nina (Gassin) Ownby on Sept. 12, 1942, in Roswell, NM. He graduated from Corning Union High School in 1960. He retired in 1995 after a 28 year career as an Instrument Repairman with Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of 52 years; sons, Adrian and his wife, Tammie, of Sacramento, and Andrew and his wife, Sasha, of Vacaville; deeply loved grandchildren, Andrew, Nash, Emery, and Cassidy; mother, Gerty Womack of Corning, CA; sister, Sharon and brother-in-law, Albert, of Vienna, VA; brother, Gerald and his wife, Teri, of Redding, CA; brother-in-law, Larry and his wife, Amber, of Ogden, UT; sister-in-law, Gabriele Womack of Houston, TX; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Adrian was predeceased by his father, Woodrow Russell, and brother, Robert Lee Womack.
Known for his extraordinary talents in the kitchen, especially his intense and decadent chocolate cake recipe made for birthdays and special occasions, Adrian could be found sitting in his favorite chair reading, cover to cover, a new cookbook or skimming an old favorite. He was an insatiable reader of mystery and adventure novels. He walked daily saying good morning to fellow walking enthusiasts at Alamo Creek Park where he also spent many hours with his grandchildren as they enjoyed the colorful play equipment.
Keeping a loved one alive in memory is important. A quote from Paulo Coelho helps us to do so, "We never lose our loved ones. They accompany us. They do not disappear from our lives. We are merely in different rooms." In Adrian's case, he's likely in the kitchen where he found happiness and expressed his love to all by creating the best cookies, bread, or contemplating making a recipe from one of the hundreds of cookbooks all neatly organized in the family room bookshelves.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Adrian's doctors, nurses, and other care givers at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Vacaville, for their exceptional personal care and concern. Their only focus was to work together to deliver the care Adrian needed. They embodied the high quality, ethical, and careful attention every patient deserves.
A private celebration of his life will be held with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a favorite charity of your choice.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It has been years since I have seen many of you. I still have fond memories. Sending prayers for Linda, Gerty, and Sharon as well as the rest of the family I haven't met. Wish I was closer but sending hugs to each of you.

I will miss Adrian's happy greeting as we passed each other at Alamo Park.
I would thank him for being such a loving husband to my colleague and friend Linda and a terrific father, especially to Andrew (Andy) who was a good friend of my own son in elementary to high school.
