Frances Ultican Wiese passed away peacefully on Aug. 17, at VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville, at the age of 88. The cause of her death was heart and lung failure. Her passing came quickly and painlessly.
She was born in American Falls, Idaho, on Aug. 6, 1926, the daughter of Bill and Josephine Ultican. She attended Graceland College and Drake University in Iowa. She earned a Master's degree in English from the University of Wyoming and in Educational Pyschology from the University of Hawaii. Fran was a teacher for many years and later went into school administration and special education. She retired as the Director of Special Education for Solano County in 1986.
Frances married L. Michael Wiese on March 24, 1951, in Webster City, Iowa. Over the years, she followed her husband through many military assignments, raising four children while also teaching school. Between 1954 and 1960, they had two boys and two girls, of whom she was consummately proud. She was a devoted mother and grandmother; family always came first.
Fran's faith sustained her through the years, and she was the embodiment of love and kindness. She has been a member of Community Presbyterian Church since she and Mike settled in Vacaville in 2001, and she cherished her church family.
Fran is survived by her loving husband, Mike Wiese, her four children, David (Melody) Wiese of Swartz Creek, MI, Paul (Freddie) Wiese of Vacaville, Valerie Hetrick of Davis and Vickie (Lee) Warner of Carmel Valley, and her 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by her 90-year old brother, Ervin Ultican, of Baltimore, Ohio.
Arrangements under the care of Fairfield Funeral Home, 707-425-1041.
