A longtime resident of Fairfield and Vacaville, Hazel passed away at the age of 93 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born in Oklahoma to Ralph and Nellie Hepner.
Hazel moved with her husband and sons to Fairfield in the 1940s. Prior to working and retiring from Intercommunity Hospital as a cook in the 1970s, she owned and operated the Fairfield Fountain on Texas Street from the '50s through the early '60s.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Frank C. Perez; sons, Jim Freeman and wife Elvina, Frank Perez Jr. and wife Fayann; daughter-in-law, Beverly Freeman; and brother, Bob Hepner. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Freeman; and her siblings, Joe Hepner, Bill Hepner, Lois Watkins and Monroe Hepner.
Remembrances in Hazel's name can be sent to the American Cancer Society, 744 Empire St., Suite 206, Fairfield, CA 94533.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR OF HAZEL'S PASSING.I MET HAZEL IN 1953 WHEN MY FAMILY LIVED THERE IN FAIRFIELD FOR TWO YEARS.I WAS IN THE FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADES AT THE TIME AND WE LIVED IN THE ONCE CALLED CRISPIN'S CABINS.I REMEMBER THE BOYS,JIMMY AND JOEY AND NEVER KNEW JOEY PASSED AWAY,I'M SO SORRY.HAZEL TREATED OUR FAMILY LIKE WE WERE KIN AND I CAN PICTURE HER NOW.THE WORLD HAS LOST A VERY GOOD PERSON,MAY SHE REST IN PEACE.MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY.JESS RUTLEDGE-ROCKLIN.
