LaVonne Irene Lewis Reiter, 86, formerly of Waterloo, IA died Thursday, Aug 13 at Allen Hospital. She was born April 25, 1927 in Sioux Falls, S.D., daughter of Lornel Lewis and Margaret Preuss.
LaVonne received her nursing degree from Presentation School of Nursing at Mc Kennen Hospital in Sioux Falls. She served as II Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps for three years. She first worked at Allen hospital in Waterloo as a registered nurse in the 1950s. From the 1960s to 1990s she worked at hospitals in San Jose and Santa Clara, CA and Greenville, S.C. as R.N. and D.O.N. as well as Night Supervisor.
Preceded in death by two daughters, Pamela Reiter in infancy, and Jane Ann McVey; one sister, Leota Lewis.
Survived by one sister, Susan (Carey) Schave of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three daughters, Barbara Reiter Roberts of Berlin, Germany, Judith (Alan) Harberts of Holland, IA, and Jean Dyer Yost of Santa Cruz, CA; grandchildren, Anna (Timothy) Petersen-Santor, Hannah Redix, and Philip, Jacob, Abigail, Eli Harberts, and Heather Dyer; great-grandchildren, Jake, Drew Santor, Ashlyn Redix.
Funeral services will take place 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23 at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with burial at Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center in Waterloo, IA. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service as well as one hour before the service.
