Margarita was a native of Mexico and longtime resident of Solano County. She passed away on Saturday, Sept. 18, peacefully and surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on June 4, 1929, in Jamay, Jalisco, Mexico, and was the daughter of Felipe Lopez and Maria Castellanos. In 1948, she married Agapito Martinez Lopez who passed away in October 1997.
Margarita was one of the founding members of the Catholic group "Sociedad Guadalupana" of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was a key voice in introducing Spanish Mass at her parish and others within the Sacramento Diocese. Margarita was an active participating member of The Legion of Mary, Grupo de Oracion, The Cursillo Movement and she was an Eucharist minister within the church during mass and taking the Eucharist to the elderly and ill. She enjoyed serving her parish and the people of her community. She enjoyed feeding all who visited her home - you never visited without sharing a meal and she especially enjoyed tending to her plants, fruit trees and beautiful flower garden.
She was an active contributing member of Holy Spirit Parish for over 50 years. One of her dreams in life was fulfilled through her journeys of faith to the Holy Land.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Agapito M. Lopez; a son, Edmundo Lopez; and a daughter, Maria del Carmen Lopez.
She is survived by three sons, Benito Lopez, Felipe Lopez of Fairfield and Jesus Lopez of Sacramento; six daughters, Ramona Lopez, Estlela Lopez, Rosa Lopez, Maria Lopez Panduro, Noemi Lopez and Margarita Lopez; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 9 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday Sept. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by interment at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, 1707 Union Ave., Fairfield.
