Sterling Kent Abel, of Fairfield, Calif, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 9, at 10:15 p.m., at his home in Vacaville, where he was surrounded by his immediate family.

Kent graduated from Armijo High School in 1972 and continued his education at Cal Maritime Academy where he graduated in 1975 with a BA Degree. He was deeply involved in sports where he was a standout football, as well as basketball player.
He was the youngest graduate of CMA to ever receive a Chief Engineer's License.
From 1983 to 1994 he held various responsibilities on steam as well as diesel vessels. From 1989 to 1990 he spent the majority of his time building his dream home on the outskirts of Vacaville. In the fall of 1994 he accepted a position as Port Engineer at Pearl Harbor, thanks to his college roommate Doug Briscoe, to spend quality time with his family.
He lived life to the fullest in every aspect, loved his family, and will be missed terribly. He was a hero and mentor to those that he cared for and had an incredibly strong work ethic. He had a life long love of the sun and water.
Kent was an avid sports fan and bled silver and black until the day he died.
