William "Bill" Webb Jr., 83, passed away peacefully in Fairfield on Sept. 29. Bill was born on May 1, 1929 in Andover, Massachusetts to Eleanor Flora Whitney and William Reuben Webb.
Bill enlisted in the
United States Navy
before his 18th birthday, honorably serving his country. Shortly after leaving the Navy as he was riding on a Springfield city bus in Sept., 1952 he noticed a young lady that caught his eye. He sat next to her and three months later proposed and married Florence "Mae" Clara Vieu, December, 1952.
While married and holding down a full time job Bill attended American International College in Springfield, MA and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. Bill worked as a research chemist at Feichold Chemicals, Inc., in New Hampshire and changed jobs joining Spaulding Fiber Company in Milton, New Hampshire as a product development engineer.
Bill enjoyed the outdoors and in his young days he was an avid outdoor sportsman; fishing, hunting and camping. Bill also had a green thumb with gardening. He found the most perfect camping spot at Pinecrest Lake and started a 43 year tradition of family camping.
In March of 1968, he decided to move his family to the warmer climate of California, first settling in Walnut Creek, moving several more times to Kerman and Tracy, and retired on May 2, 1994, from the United States Government Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation Delta Area office as a Safety officer. He finally settled in Vacaville, CA., in 1996 and with his wife Mae, fit right into the Leisure Town Community where he enjoyed lawn bowling, dancing and golfing.
Bill is survived by his brother, Jim Webb of Wells, Maine; his longer term friend, Margie Schuetz of Vacaivlle; son, William Webb III; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Gregg Motta of Fairfield; daughter, Susanna Webb and significant other, Mario Hernandez of Tracy; grandchildren, Clinton and Jimmy Motta of Vacaville, Jeff Motta of Santa Rosa, Jennifer Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona, Brandon and Jeremy Hernandez of Tracy, Scott Webb of Sacramento and Jessica, Celeste and Tiffany Webb. He has many great-grandchildren; Dominic, Vincent, Melania Motta all of Vacaville and Shay Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona. Bill was preceded in death by parents, William and Eleanor Webb; loving wife, Florence "Mae" Webb, and son Clinton Herbert Webb.
Friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., in Nadeau Family Funeral Home with a service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial is to be private at Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery, 522 Elmira Road, Vacaville, CA on Oct. 3.
