After a long and eventful life, Eugene Lee Kappmeyer died peacefully in his home Monday, Feb. 3. He was born the youngest of five sons to Oscar and Lily Kappmeyer in San Antonio, Texas, on May 13, 1929. A child of the Depression, he spent his early years working the family farm with his brothers.
As a young man, he enlisted in the navy and served during the
on board an aircraft carrier as an electronic mechanic. Later, while stationed at Moffett Field, he met Doris Rich whom he courted and married on Sept. 19, 1955.
Eugene Kappmeyer, known as "Kappy" by his work associates had been employed by Lockheed, Fairchild, National Semiconductor, and Schlumberger during his professional life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his son, Theodore; and three of his brothers, Theodore, Rheinhold, and George. He is survived by his daughter, Leanne Riggert and husband, Dave of Vacaville; daughter, Deidre Kappmeyer of Clovis, CA; and daughter, Patricia Behm and husband Vic of San Jose; brother, Oscar Kappmeyer and wife, Gladys of Refugio, TX; and grandsons, Joseph and Steven Riggert of Vacaville; and grandson, Michael Harrold of Clovis, CA. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Nadeau Family Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary being said at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
