Mary Ann Wensel Obituary
July 17, 1922 - Feb. 11, 2013
After a long illness, Mary Ann Wensel passed gently. She had a deep love for her family and friends, leaving her long full life for a better place. She was born Mary Ann Wright to Harry and Blanche Wright in North Platte Nebraska on a small farm. She had four brothers, Raymond, Jim, Herb, and Lloyd. She loved her family and spoke of them often throughout her life. As a young child, her family got to town with their horse and buggy. Later her family was one of the first in the area to acquire a Model T Ford. Mary loved and had various animals during her life and passed that love of animals on to her children.
Mary married Robert Wensel in Oakland, Calif. in 1946. They had four children who are still living today, Katrina, Harry, James, and Jill. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Edwin, Eric, Scotty, Melody, Jillian, Karen, Ryan, Danny, and Stephanie, and four great grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Everret, and Alexa. At the age of 90 despite her illness Mary was blessed and thrilled to hold her great grandchild Taylor. She so loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Mary was active in the Vacaville community with PTA, little league mom, Brownie leader and lead Girl Scout helper, and a past president of the Vacaville Saturday Club. She was a homemaker and attended all of her children's school and extra curricular activities. She always was there to help her neighbors, and her neighbors, in Mary's later years, greatly helped her. Mary had a great sense of humor and was at her best when the kids were little and she had a water pistol. But Mary also could be feisty and never had a problem standing up to anyone in the name of what was right or helping those who needed help. She cared for her husband Bob, and her brothers Raymond and Lloyd when they needed help the most.
After Bob's retirement, Mary and husband Bob traveled the United States and Canada in their Airstream trailer. They loved to play golf, fish, walk, and travel. They were long time Vacaville and Leisure Town residents.
Mary's family invites all of her friends and neighbors to attend her memorial service on Friday, March 29. It will be held at the Leisure Town Hall, on the corner of Sequoia Drive and Leisure Way, starting at 10:30 a.m., with a buffet luncheon immediately following. Remembrances can be made to your local Community Hospice.
