Len Schilling went to meet his Lord and Savior while at his home in Dixon with his family by his side at the age of 67.
A native of Davenport, Iowa; Len graduated from West High School in 1964 and immediately joined the Marines. Following his service in Vietnam, Len returned stateside to Camp Pendleton and met Teresa on a blind date in 1968; they married later that same year. The couple returned to Iowa where Len went to school for computer science, but soon returned to Southern California where Teresa grew up and better job opportunities existed. Len's first job was at Hughes Aircraft. They started their family in 1970, and later Len returned to school to obtain his bachelor's degree at Cal-Poly Pomona while he and Teresa raised their four children. Len's career had him doing many things, but he enjoyed his last job the most at the State Compensation Insurance Fund where he tested the state's security by pretending to be a "hacker." Len was active in the Dixon community serving in the Dixon Honor Guard assisting with funerals at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. He was recently appointed to the city planning commission, a member of the Dixon VFW and Valley Church in Vacaville where he served as head usher.
Len is survived by his wife Teresa; son Peter Schilling of Dixon, daughter Melissa McCreary of Sacramento, son Mark Schilling of Dixon and daughter Jennifer Reese of Clearfield, Utah, and grandchildren Jordan, Nicholas, Chelsea, Brittanee, Kaytelynne, Joshua, Alyssa and Kiaya; Len had one great-granddaughter, Anastasia, who is on the way. There were other "kids" who called Len "Papa" and they are Joe, Kristin, Samantha, Alyssa and Lilliana. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Karen and Rose and numerous nieces and nephews; Len was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters.
