Dec. 25, 1917 - April 12, 2013
Margaret McElwain passed away suddenly on April 12. A Vacaville resident for the last five years, she was born on Christmas Day, 1917, delivered in her home in Fairfax, South Dakota to Oscar and Sarah Kosta. She was born into a family of musicians who toured locally and performed on the radio, station WNAX, as The Rosebud Kids. She is predeceased by her siblings (and fellow Rosebud Kids) George, Alice, Harlan and Waunita. She married the late Glen McElwain on Oct. 25, 1940, and moved to Alameda, Calif., when Glen was stationed at the naval base there during WWII. They had four children, William, Karen, Richard, and Robert.
A lifelong pianist whose passion was the jazz standards she grew up with, she continued to play throughout her 95 years. Her husband, one son, and two grandchildren shared that passion with her, and performed with her on many occasions over the years.
She is survived by her children; grandchildren, Bradley, William, Richard, Connor, Sarah, Mathew, and Karly; her great grandchildren, Tasia, Michaela, Bryce, and Zachary.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m., at McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St., Vacaville.
