Obituary Condolences

Dec. 2, 1939 - Aug. 31, 2013
Jay was taken from us after a short illness. Born to Fred and Marian Smith in Gridley, Calif. Moved to Vallejo as a young child where he attended school until graduating at Vallejo Senior High, 1957.
Joined the Air Force (Travis Air Force Base), stationed in Japan 1958 to 1960. He attended Healds Engineering College for four years. Started at Mare Island in 1965 in an apprenticeship and worked his way up the ladder until 1994 when he retired because of the closure of Mare Island as a Reactor Plant General Foreman.
Preceded in death by his father, Fred in 1972; son, Vaughn, 1984 and mother, Marian, 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Gayle; daughter, Shannon of Phoenix, AZ; step-daughter, Terri (Kevin); five grandchildren, Courtney, Madison, Joshua, Donovan and Zachery.
Jay enjoyed motorcycles, boating, water skiing, hunting and football, especially the 49ers. He enjoyed rebuilding motors, classic cars (member of Solano Classic Car Club) and most of all camping with his grandkids.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Services will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m..
