Harold "Bud" Henley Obituary
Jan. 25, 1925 - Nov. 6, 2013
Harold "Bud" Henley, 88, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6.after a short battle with lung cancer.
Bud was born and raised in Jefferson City, Missouri, the descendant of a pioneer family who founded the town of Henley, Missouri in the 1800's. He began his 20-year Air Force career after graduating from high school. At age 18, he was a tail gunner during World War II and also served his country in the Korean War. He married beautiful Sarah Alex on May 2, 1951 at March AFB near Riverside, CA where the couple established their first home. A few years and several stops later, he was transferred to Travis AFB where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1963 and Bud and Sarah started a family in Vacaville. Bud's two sons, Mike and Rob, grew up sharing their father's enthusiasm for baseball. During the '60s and '70s, much of Bud's free time was spent coaching youth baseball, which he enjoyed tremendously.
His second career was with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier in Vacaville for 22 years before he and Sarah retired to Southern California in 1986. After 44 wonderful years together, Bud's beloved Sarah passed away in 1995. A few years later, Bud found love again with Florence McDonald who remained his devoted partner until her passing in 2009.
Bud had the good fortune to enjoy a healthy, independent life in Southern California until earlier this year. He loved to travel, enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends, and couldn't wait for baseball season to begin each spring to cheer his beloved LA Angels and SF Giants.
He is survived by his son, Mike (Sandy) and grandsons Keith, Tanner, Blake and Ryan; son, Rob (Marie) and granddaughter, Julia Morgan.
A private service with full military honors will be held at Valhalla Memorial Park in Southern California. The Henley family wishes to thank their many friends for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
