JOHN NELSON John R. "Jack" Nelson, 86, of Worcester Township, went home to be with his Heavenly Father September 3, 2013. He and his wife, Beverly (Bourbeau) Nelson, observed their 60th wedding anniversary January 10th of this year. Born November 28, 1926 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late John August Nelson and Hannah (Johnson) Nelson. He graduated from Technical High School in Springfield, and from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He served in the U. S. Army in the Philippines during World War II with the 343rd Regiment, and again with the U. S. Army Infantry during the Korean War serving as a 2nd lieutenant. Mr. Nelson worked in the steel industry most of his life. He was the owner of Nelson Steel Products, Inc. and Nelson Wire Rope Corporation. Mr. Nelson also served on the boards of directors of Hatfield Quality Meats and was a member of P.A.C.E. (President Advisory Council on Excellence) at the Biblical Seminary of Hatfield. Jack enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, and watching baseball and following the Phillies in his later years. One of his greatest joys, he cherished the time spent with his family at their cottage on the lake in the Poconos. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Cindy Freeman of Telford, Rick Nelson and his wife, Lisa, David Nelson and his wife, Joni, and Laurie Nelson, all of Worcester; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. John was a great fellow. He taught me more about playing golf in one noontime visit to a golf, hitting range, than any at other time. My main interest in those days was to see my wife to be, in Milton, MA, than to hang out with such a fine person.
PS: Cornelia, "Connie" is still my main interest in life.
