CREMILDA BORGES Cremilda Vitoria (Garcia) Borges, 87, of Harleysville, passed away February 23, 2013 at Manor Care Lansdale. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose P. Borges, who died in 2000. Born December 14, 1925 in Portugal, Cremilda was a daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Fonseca) Garcia. Vitoria, as she liked to be called by her middle name, started her career at a young age working at Tipoia Restaurant in Lisbon, where she learned the art of 'Matre d'. She also taught her younger sister, Hortense, the art. She went on to work at many famous Restaurants in Lisbon, one in particular 'A Severa' where she was to meet the love of her life, Jose, who was well on his way to being a famous 'Fado de Coimbra' singer. They were married December 26, 1955 and years later opened their own nightclub restaurant 'Lar Portugues,' where she was the master chef and Jose the singer of Fado. In 1971, they immigrated to The United States and set up home in Philadelphia. There, they established a caf restaurant called "April in Portugal" true to their talents; Vitoria was the chef and Jose the manager and singer. Above all else, she will be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, sister and loving daughter. She helped raise her siblings and continued caring for others throughout her life. For many years, she attended Corpus Christi Church in Lansdale. She enjoyed her Latin America Telonovelas and attending the annual Relay for Life event where her family is actively involved. She is survived by her son, John M. Borges and his wife, Cheryl, of Harleysville; and one beloved grandson, Brandon Adam Borges. She is also survived by her sister, Hortense Garcia of Portugal; and nieces and nephews In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Mario Vitoria, Marinho, Sousa, and Francisco, and one sister Julietta. Her Prayer Service will be held 10 AM Friday, March 1, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, where friends may greet the family after 9 AM. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
