Delbert Dwight Cannon

D. DWIGHT CANNON Delbert Dwight Cannon was born October 24, 1922 in Eldorado, Kansas to Delbert Atice and Mary Sherman Cannon, the youngest of three boys. He joined the Navy in 1942 and attended the Navy Medical Corpsman School. During his six years of active duty he served in Scotland, the New London Submarine Base, the USS Honolulu and later the USS Mindoro. He met Ethel Marion Buler, a Navy nurse, while at the New London base and they were married June 7, 1947. Later they moved to Philadelphia where he was employed as a printer and retired from Merck Sharpe and Dohme after 35 years. He continued to be involved with the Merck Retiree Club until his death. Travel, family events and researching family history were enjoyable parts of his life. Dwight maintained lifelong friendships with Navy shipmates and those of the Navy Nurses with whom Ethel served. After Ethel's death in 1992, he was inducted as an Honorary Member of the Navy Nurse Corp and continued to attend their reunions. After Ethel's death he met the second love of his life, Barbara Justice. Together they continued to travel and build a relationship that brought both families together. Dwight Cannon concluded a lifetime of travel on June 17, 2013 as he was taken to Heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ. He is survived by his son, Delbert Dwight Cannon, Jr. and wife Linda; grandchildren, Steven DelPizzo, Aimee (DelPizzo) Bradley, Rebekah (Cannon) McDonald, and Christopher Cannon; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, and daughter, Gail.
