Fred Deetz

FRED DEETZ Fred "Fritz" Deetz, 84, of Sellersville, died November 9, 2012, from complications of diabetes. He was the loving husband of Betty E. (Kober) Deetz, with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Walter K. and Mary (Renninger) Deetz. He graduated from the former Sell-Perk High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He was captain of the track team and held several school records in that sport. He also attended Temple and Penn State Universities, attaining certificate degrees at both. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Navy after serving in the Pacific Theatre toward the end of WWII, aboard the U.S.S. Vincennes. He was employed as a general supervisor by Philco-Ford and Zenith Radio and Television in Lansdale and Watsontown, for 25 years. He was recently employed as a Quality Control manager for North American Drager in Telford for 12 years until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Deetz lived most of his life in Tylersport and was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ridge Valley. He was a member of the Souderton-Harleysville G.F.& F. Association and a longtime member of the Tylersport Fire Company, having joined in 1947. He was also a member and past secretary of the Joint Electronic Devices Engineering Council headquartered in Washington, DC. He achieved senior membership in the North Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Society for Quality Control, being a past vice chairman and secretary. His hobbies were sports, woodworking, traveling, history and collecting antique glassware, but the loves of his life were his wife Betty, his daughters and his grandchildren. In addition to his beloved Betty, he is survived by two daughters, Kay S. Souder and her husband, Dean, of Telford and Lois D. Heany and her husband, Rob, of North Wales; a grandson, Donald F. Heany and his wife, Keely, of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Amy L. Koerner and her husband, Jeffrey, of Lancaster; and a brother, Donald Deetz and his wife, Margaret, of Sellersville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter J. of Salem, OR; a beloved granddaughter, Sarah K. Souder; and a great-granddaughter, Hazel Alice Heany. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 11AM in the St. John's Lutheran Church, 910 Allentown Rd., Sellersville (Ridge Valley), PA 18960. Interment is private at the convenience of the family in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. John's Lutheran Church at the above address. Arrangements are by the Sadler-Suess Funeral Home, Telford.
