John R. Nelson

JOHN NELSON John R. "Jack" Nelson, 86, of Worcester Township, went home to be with his Heavenly Father September 3, 2013. He and his wife, Beverly (Bourbeau) Nelson, observed their 60th wedding anniversary January 10th of this year. Born November 28, 1926 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late John August Nelson and Hannah (Johnson) Nelson. He graduated from Technical High School in Springfield, and from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He served in the U. S. Army in the Philippines during World War II with the 343rd Regiment, and again with the U. S. Army Infantry during the Korean War serving as a 2nd lieutenant. Mr. Nelson worked in the steel industry most of his life. He was the owner of Nelson Steel Products, Inc. and Nelson Wire Rope Corporation. He served as an elder and was a founding member of Cornerstone Church of Skippack. For over 13 years, he served as chairman of the board of directors of New Life Youth & Family Services of Harleysville. Mr. Nelson also served on the boards of directors of Hatfield Quality Meats and was a member of P.A.C.E. (President Advisory Council on Excellence) at the Biblical Seminary of Hatfield. Jack enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, and watching baseball and following the Phillies in his later years. One of his greatest joys, he cherished the time spent with his family at their cottage on the lake in the Poconos. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Cindy Freeman of Telford, Rick Nelson and his wife, Lisa, David Nelson and his wife, Joni, and Laurie Nelson, all of Worcester; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 8PM, at Cornerstone Church of Skippack, 1326 Stump Hall Rd., Skippack, and to the memorial service Saturday at the church at 10:30AM, followed by a luncheon.
