Mahlon E. Cassel

MAHLON CASSEL Mahlon E. Cassel, 87, of Souderton, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, April 5, 2013, at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth (Bergey) Cassel for 60 years. Mahlon was born in Line Lexington, to the late Mahlon and Elsie (Detweiler) Cassel. He was employed at Hatfield Quality Meats for 37 years. Mahlon was a member of Generations in Souderton. He loved raising sheep, gardening and spending time and visiting with his family. Mahlon and his wife enjoyed traveling to visit their children and friends in Mexico, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Brazil and Canada. He and Elizabeth also enjoyed entertaining international guests at their home. Mahlon volunteered at the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes and Meals on Wheels. He and his wife also volunteered in Florida and Alaska with SOOP. Mahlon was a life member of Line Lexington Mennonite Church where he served as a former Sunday school teacher, Sunday school Superintendent and trustee. He is survived by his four daughters, Lucille Weaver of Perkasie, Esther Mast and husband, Darrel, of Lancaster, Beth Kolb and husband, Paul, of Spring City and Marilyn Hanger and husband, Kirk, of Alexandria, VA; his son, Timothy Cassel and wife, Cheryl, of Harrisonburg, VA; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Gerald Cassel and wife, Shirley, of Mount Pleasant, MI; and his sister, Janet Gane and husband, Fred, of Telford. In addition to his parents and wife, Mahlon was preceded in death by his son, James B. Cassel and his sister, Doris Parmer. Viewings will be held Monday, April 8, at Souderton Mennonite Homes, 207 West Summit Street, Souderton, from 6 to 8PM and Tuesday, April 9, at Line Lexington Mennonite Church, 80 Hilltown Pike, Line Lexington, from 1 to 2PM. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 2PM at Line Lexington Mennonite Church. Burial will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
