LESTER SCHLEGEL Lester E. Schlegel, 84, of Franconia Township, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Nancy (Schuler) Schlegel, his beloved wife of 59 years. Born May 19, 1929 in Towamencin Township, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Mayme (Brunner) Schlegel. Mr. Schlegel graduated from the former North Wales High School in 1947 and earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics from Penn State University in 1953. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Mr. Schlegel began his career spanning over 35 years with Brooks Instrument, Hatfield, retiring in 1993. Lester was a dedicated member of Christ Reformed Church at Indian Creek where he served as Treasurer, Deacon, and Sunday school teacher. Earlier in life, he was active with the Souderton-Telford Jaycees and served as President. Lester also served as Vice-President with the North Penn Area Industrial Management Club. Mr. Schlegel's hobbies included golfing, playing bridge, and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Steven (Angela) of Green Lane, Keith, Todd (Julia), and David (Kerri), all of Franconia Township; seven grandchildren, Tara, Brandon, Erica, Mitchell, Nicholas, Alexa, and Avari; and his siblings, Franklin (Helen) of Harleysville, Ellen Brown of Bethlehem, Herbert (Rosemary) of North Wales, and William of New York. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Wendy. Relatives and friends may call after 3PM Sunday, Sept. 8, at Christ Reformed Church at Indian Creek, 171 Church Rd., Telford, PA 18969, followed by the Memorial Service at 4PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Mr. Schlegel's memory to Christ Reformed Church at Indian Creek, address above.
