Charles Albert Derr Obituary
CHARLES ALBERT DERR Charles Albert Derr, 71, of Salfordville, PA went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Lansdale. He was the loving husband of Sandra (Bechtel) Derr for 32 years. Charlie was born in Shamokin, PA to the late Charles & Cora (Beadle) Derr. He graduated from Coal Twp. High School, class of 1960. Charlie served as an Air Force Technician for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Packaging Mechanic for Merck, Sharp & Dohme for 35 years. Charlie was a member of the Shamokin Lodge #255 F&AM Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Rajah Shrine in Allentown, PA. He was also a member of the Merck Union Retirees' Club in West Point, PA. Charlie enjoyed hot-air ballooning, scuba diving and vegetable gardening. He loved riding his John Deere tractor. Charlie collected Lionel Trains and kept busy by creating his own inventions. He was a member of Immanuel Leidy's Church where he sang in the church choir. In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his son, Andrew Byer & wife, Kristina of Telford, PA; his three grandsons, Dylan Nason, Logan Byer & Jonathan Byer, all of Telford, PA. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00 am at Immanuel Leidy's Church, 276 W. Cherry Lane, Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 where friends may view and meet with the family from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Old Goshenhoppen Cemetery in Woxall, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Good Samaritan Fund c/o Immanuel Leidy's Church, address above.
