Elizabeth Hewitt Obituary

ELIZABETH R. HEWITT
Elizabeth Nellymay (Rolfe) Hewitt of Philadelphia died peacefully March 12, 2013 at the age of 94.
Born January 8, 1919 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Elgie Carl Rolfe and Alma (Camburn) Rolfe.
She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Thomas M. Cooley High School in Detroit, MI, in 1936 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne University in 1940. She taught school for three years and then married Harry Donald Hewitt, May 15, 1943. She and her husband moved to Pennsylvania late in 1944, settling in Ardmore for 10 years and then moving to 345 S. 19th St., Philadelphia, where they lived for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Hewitt worked in various positions with Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania, including as a manager in the Upper Darby Business office for seven years. She worked for Bell for 33 years before retiring in February 1978.
Her full-time career and devotion to her husband enabled him to become a prolific composer in the Philadelphia music scene. He died March 26, 2003, ending the marriage which had lasted 59 years.
She was predeceased by her sister Jeanette "Jeanne" Estella (Rolfe) Grandstaff.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM, April 27 at Atria, 150 N 20th St., Philadelphia, PA 19103. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Edwin A.
