J. Kenneth ""Ken"" Jones Obituary
J. KENNETH 'KEN' JONES J. Kenneth "Ken" Jones, 82, of Lansdale, passed away quietly Tuesday, December 17, 2013, after a brief bout with pneumonia. He was the husband of Nancy (Benner) Jones, his wife of almost 56 years. Born July 5, 1931, in Doylestown, he was the son of the late Norman C. and Elizabeth (Atkinson) Jones. Ken and his family moved to Dyerstown where they lived for seven years before the family moved to Lancaster County when Ken was in the 11th grade. He graduated from Manheim Township High School in Neffsville in 1949. Ken served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and was stationed in Florida. He returned to Pennsylvania to attend Penn State University under the GI bill. Ken was a 1959 graduate of Penn State and an ardent supporter of the university and its athletic programs. He was a Certified Public Accountant for 10 years at Ernst and Ernst - one of the then Big 8 accounting firms in the nation, working out of their Philadelphia and Reading offices. Ken joined Hatfield Quality Meats in 1968 as a controller. He held several positions with Hatfield from Assistant Treasurer to Executive Vice President and served on their Board of Directors. He retired in 1994 from functional service as the Treasurer and Senior Vice President and from the Board of Directors in 2006. Upon his retirement, Hatfield Quality Meats, now known as Clemens Family Corporation, created an employee service award in his honor, which is given annually and commemorates an employee for his/her outstanding service. Ken served on a number of non-profit and for-profit boards over the course of his career, including the North Penn YMCA, Hatfield, Inc., Advanced Living Management Development, Inc., North Penn Community Health Foundation, Rotary, Clemens Markets, and the North Penn Hospital. He has been very committed to his church, Trinity Lutheran of Lansdale, and has served throughout the years on the Church Council and Ushers Association. Both he and his wife Nancy served as Honorary Co-Chairs of Trinity's Capital Campaign. Ken was married to Nancy Nace Benner of Lansdale on January 25, 1958, and lived in Lansdale, Sinking Spring, and Hatfield Township until retiring to Towamencin Township several years ago. Ken and Nancy enjoyed traveling, attending Penn State Football games, and spending time with their family. They have two children, a son, Phillip, of Smithfield, Virginia; and a daughter, Sharon, of Lansdale. Phillip is a former officer of a Fortune 500 Company and currently President of a company in Chesapeake, Virginia. He and his wife Betsy have two children, Cassie and Tucker. Sharon holds several undergraduate and post graduate degrees from Slippery Rock University and Widener School of Law. She is a successful Attorney in Montgomery County and spends her spare time doing pro bono work for the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project. Additional survivors include three sisters, Shirley Myers and her husband, Gerald, of Marathon, NY, Doris Cathers of Lehighton, and Carolyn Michener and her husband, William, of Gardenville, PA. Relatives and friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 West Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Leidy's Cemetery, Souderton.
