Wallace S. "Wally" Hendricks Obituary
WALLACE 'WALLY' S. HENDRICKS Wallace "Wally" S. Hendricks, 87 of Harleysville, died on Monday, April 7, 2014. He was the husband of Evelyn (Mears) Hendricks for 65 years. Born in Woxall, he was the son of the late Ralph B. and Sadie Marie (Schuler) Hendricks. Mr. Hendricks was a graduate of the Towamencin Consolidated School District and received his GED High School Diploma at Temple in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Army with the 35th Division, 134 Infantry regiment during World War II. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, two Battle Stars and various ribbons. He retired from the Lansdale Police Department as the Chief of Police. He started as a patrolman in 1953, advanced to Sergeant in 1958 and made Police Chief in 1961. After retiring he drove school bus for the North Penn School District for 8 years. Mr. Hendricks was an active member of the Christ Covenant Church in Kulpsville and was a Sunday School teacher for 44 years. He also served as a deacon and trustee on church council. He was an active member of the Towamencin Vol. Fire Company since its inception in 1949, being an assistant Chief for 12 years and President for 15 years. In 1999 he joined the Harleysville Vol. Fire Co. as a fire police officer. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Montgomery County Lodge 14. He was a member of the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County where he served as President in 1971. He belonged to the Southeastern Police Chiefs Association and the Police Chiefs Association of Pennsylvania. Mr. Hendricks was a member of Shiloh Lodge No. 558, F&A Masons and was on the committee for the Masonic Hall operations. He was a member of the North Penn HI-12 Club and served as President for a one year term and was also a 32 Degree Mason with the Lehigh Consistory in Allentown. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Lynn wife of Stephen Kirka of Quakertown, and Vivian Lee, wife of Stephen Koehler of Denton, MD, two sons, R. Barry Hendricks of Norristown and Ralph W. Hendricks and his wife Christina of Lansdale, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a brother Robert Hendricks and his wife Gladys of Lansdale. He was preceded in death by a sister Ida Mae (Dolly) Miller, a brother James Hendricks and a granddaughter Tina Kirka. A viewing for Mr. Hendricks will be held on Thursday, April 10, from 6-8 pm at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford (Franconia Twp.) and again from 10-11 am on Friday, April 11, followed by an 11 am funeral service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Monday, April 14 at Christ Covenant Church, 2200 Mainland Rd., Harleysville, PA 19438 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Towamencin Vol. Fire Company, P.O. Box 274, Kulpsville, PA 19443, the Harleysville Vol. Fire Co., 274 Kulp Road, Harleysville, PA 19438 and /or Christ Covenant Church at the above address.
