WENDELL LOMADY Wendell "Fuzz" Lomady 90, of Abington, PA, died on February 21, 2014, at Chapel Pointe Retirement Community, Carlisle, PA. Wendell is survived by his wife of 62 years, Clara Schroth Lomady, children; Susan Lomady Martin and husband Joe of Carlisle, Nancy Lomady Schale and husband Ed of Shippensburg, Frederick Lomady and wife Maureen of Willow Grove and Judith Lomady Schreiber and husband George of Carlisle, sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Wendell served in World War II as a member of the US Coast Guard where he saw action in the Pacific. He graduated from Penn State University. While attending, Wendell was part of the men's gymnastic team and served as the Nittany Lion mascot in 1948-49. He earned his Master's Degree from Temple University. Wendell retired from Upper Dublin School District where he was a Health and Phys. Ed teacher, gymnastics coach, and PIAA official. He also taught at Dobbins Technical and Thomas Edison High Schools in Philadelphia. His hobbies included singing with the Abington Barbershop Chorus and in the Reformed Church of Willow Grove choir where he and his wife were long-time members and volunteers. He was a Penn Relay Official for more than 30 years and taught handicapped children to swim. At Sunny Willow and other swim clubs, "Fuzz" was swim team coach, swim instructor and manager where he enjoyed summers with his family and neighbors. Always full of jokes, humor, and laughter, he would inevitably brighten the day of each and every person he encountered. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who was always giving his time, attention, and effort to others to make his community a better place.
