Christine Susan Groff

Obituary Condolences

CHRISTINE GROFF Christine Susan (Nikerle) Groff, 67, of Obelisk, wife of Robert Gerald Groff, entered her heavenly home on December 16, 2012 after a courageous battle against breast cancer. She fought the good fight with sheer determination and a strong faith in God. She never complained and was an inspiration to those around her. Born in Montgomery County on April 13, 1945, Chris was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Welde) Nikerle. She grew up on the family farm in Obelisk and shared lots of funny stories of her time working in the chicken house. She was a 1963 graduate of Boyertown Area High School and attended business school. Chris was a loyal employee at the former Harleysville National Bank and Trust Company in Harleysville working for 43 years as an assistant manager before her retirement. Even after retirement, she would stop by on Tuesdays to do her personal banking and visit with customers who would stop by just to see her. She continued to go to lunch with friends from HNB every Tuesday and attended a monthly HNB retiree breakfast. Chris was a member of Berean Bible Church in Pottstown and enjoyed serving in the nursery each Sunday morning. Caring for the newborns and toddlers brought great pleasure to Chris. Chris is survived by her husband of 44 years; daughter Lori, wife of David Bartholomew of Perkiomenville; and two grandsons, Nathan and Noah Bartholomew of Perkiomenville. She is survived by two sisters, Karlene, wife of William Ryan of Reading and Joy, wife of Andy Longacre of Parkerford; and four brothers, John (Ernie) Nikerle, husband of Eliane of Marietta, GA; Jim Nikerle of Boyertown; Tom Nikerle, husband of Sunita of Perkiomenville; and Kevin Nikerle, husband of Beverly of Perkiomenville. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her parents, an infant sister, Ruth Nikerle, and a brother, Paul Nikerle. Chris loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons. She was their greatest cheerleader during baseball games. She enjoyed traveling and spent the July 4th week in Ocean City, NJ with family and friends for over 25 years. She loved to shop with her sister-in-law, Barbara Groff, on Saturday mornings. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 20 at 11AM at Berean Bible Church, 2675 East High Street in Pottstown, PA 19464 with Pastor Jace Erb officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chris's name to the Building Fund at Berean Bible Church or to Tri County Home Health and Hospice located at 13 Armand Hammer Boulevard, Suite 201, Pottstown, PA 19464.
